Texas New Business Openings
Every business selling taxable goods in Texas must hold a sales tax permit tied to a specific physical outlet. The Comptroller publishes the active permit file, which makes it the most reliable public signal of a real business opening at a real address — not a shell LLC, not a registered-agent mailbox.
The raw file is free, public domain, and difficult to use: 883,000 rows reaching back to 1961, no plain-English industry labels, no way to ask "what opened last week," and no memory of what you already looked at.
What we add
- Filtered to new openings, not the full historical permit base.
- NAICS code plus a plain-English industry label on every row — select "restaurants" without memorising six-digit codes.
- Forward-dated openings flagged. Around 2,900 permits in a 90-day window carry a start date in the future. The business is committed, hasn't opened, and hasn't chosen its vendors yet. This slice doesn't exist in any already-open-business list.
- Storefront vs. non-storefront separated. 27% of new Texas permits are online sellers, mobile food, or direct sellers working from home. In the raw file they look identical to a retail storefront.
- De-duplicated across deliveries. Each subscriber has their own delivery history, so a weekly file only contains locations never sent to them before.
- Stable column schema that doesn't change when the state renames a field upstream.

Freshness, stated plainly
Weekly delivery. The upstream source refreshes roughly monthly.
You receive new rows within about seven days of the state publishing them. That does not mean the data is seven days old — expect two to five weeks between a business getting its permit and it appearing in your file.
If you need same-day new-business alerts, this product is not that, and no product built on this source can be.

Compliance note
These are business permit records, but Texas sales tax permits include sole proprietorships — so a minority of rows carry an individual's name and occasionally a residential address. If you are cold-calling or emailing from this file, TCPA, CAN-SPAM and Texas do-not-call rules apply to you as the sender.
What we don't include
There is no phone number and no email address in the source, and none is fabricated or appended. If a vendor sells you Texas permit data with contact details, ask them where the phones came from.
Reliability — read this before buying
This is a small, independent data operation, not an enterprise vendor. Saying so up front is deliberate.
- No SLA and no uptime guarantee. Delivery is best-effort weekly.
- If a week is missed, those rows appear in the next delivery. Delivery history is tracked per subscriber, so a late file is late, not lost.
- Schema commitment: new columns may be added at any time. Existing columns will not be renamed, removed, or have their meaning changed without 30 days' written notice.
Buyers who need a contractual SLA should not buy this product.
